Terms of Service

1. Who we are, and what you are agreeing to

Dissertatio (www.dissertatio.com and app.dissertatio.com) is operated by Hashtag AI Labs (hashtagai.io). By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you use Dissertatio under an institutional agreement, that agreement prevails where the two differ.

2. The service

Dissertatio is a collaborative platform for writing research papers: a structured manuscript editor with real-time co-authoring, DOI-resolved citation management, validation checks, version history, journal templates, and export to DOCX, PDF, and LaTeX, including submission packages. Some features use AI assistance; these are assistive and verification-oriented — you remain the author and remain responsible for your manuscript’s content, including anything you accept from an AI suggestion. We continuously improve the service and may add, change, or retire features; if we retire something material, we will give reasonable notice.

3. Accounts

• You may register with an email address or via ORCID. Keep your account information accurate and your credentials secure — actions taken through your account are your responsibility until you tell us it has been compromised.
• One account per person; accounts are for humans, not shared logins or bots.
• You must be at least 16 years old and able to form a binding contract to use the service.

4. Your content stays yours

You retain all ownership and intellectual-property rights in the manuscripts, references, data, and other content you create or upload. We claim no ownership, no publication rights, and no license beyond the narrow one needed to run the product: you grant Hashtag AI Labs a limited, revocable license to host, process, transmit, and display your content solely to provide the service to you and the collaborators you invite. That license ends when you delete the content or your account, except for the short backup window described in the Privacy Policy.

• Your content is never used to train AI models — ours or third parties’.
• Collaborator access is governed by the roles and permissions you set; we never make your content visible to anyone you have not invited.
• You can export everything — manuscripts to DOCX, PDF, and LaTeX; references to BibTeX — at any time, on any plan, including after downgrade or cancellation.

You are responsible for having the rights to what you upload, and for your manuscripts meeting the standards of the venues you submit them to.

5. Acceptable use

Keep it lawful and keep it honest. You agree not to:

• use the service for unlawful purposes, or upload content that infringes others’ rights;
• misuse the platform for research misconduct — including knowingly submitting fabricated data, plagiarized text, or citations you know to be false;
• probe, disable, or circumvent security or usage limits, scrape the service, or resell access without our written agreement;
• upload malware or content designed to harm other users or the service;
• harass or abuse other users, or impersonate any person or institution.

We may suspend or remove content or accounts that violate this section — with notice where practicable, and with your export rights preserved except where the law requires otherwise.

6. Plans, subscriptions, and billing

• Free plan. Free forever for individual use within its limits, with unlimited collaborators and watermark-free export.
• Paid plans. Billed monthly or annually in advance through our payment processor. Prices are shown at purchase; taxes may apply.
• Renewal and cancellation. Subscriptions renew automatically. Cancel any time from settings; the plan stays active until the end of the paid period, then the account moves to the Free plan. We do not delete your content on downgrade — features change, access to your work does not.
• Price changes. We will give at least 30 days’ notice before a price change takes effect at your next renewal.
• Refunds. Statutory refund rights are always honored. Beyond that, if something went wrong on our side, write to us — we would rather fix it than argue.
• Lab and institutional plans are billed per seat annually; seat changes are prorated.

7. Availability and support

We work to keep Dissertatio fast and available, and we maintain backups and incident procedures, but the service is provided without an uptime guarantee unless your institutional agreement includes one. Support is available at support@hashtagai.io.

8. Disclaimers

The service is provided “as is” and “as available.” Validation checks and AI features reduce error; they do not guarantee correctness, completeness, or acceptance by any journal — scholarly judgment stays with you. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

9. Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law: neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, and our total aggregate liability arising from the service is limited to the amounts you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (or, on the Free plan, 100 EUR). Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for fraud, willful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence — and nothing limits your statutory rights as a consumer.

10. Termination

You may close your account at any time from settings. We may terminate or suspend accounts for material breach of these terms, with notice and a chance to remedy where practicable. On termination for any reason, sections 4 (your ownership and export rights), 8, 9, and 11 survive, and the data-deletion timelines in the Privacy Policy apply.

11. General

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa, without prejudice to mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence. If a provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in force. We may update these terms; for material changes we will notify account holders at least 30 days before they take effect, and continued use after that date constitutes acceptance.
