- Is the free plan actually useful?
- Yes. The Free plan includes one active project with unlimited collaborators, watermark-free DOCX and PDF export, public templates, and 500 MB of storage. It is built for finishing a real paper, not for hitting a wall.
- Do my co-authors need paid plans?
- No — never. Collaborators are unlimited on every plan, including Free. A project's features follow its owner's plan, so one Researcher Pro subscription covers advanced validation and journal formatting for the whole author list.
- What is the difference between monthly and annual billing?
- Annual billing saves roughly 17%: Researcher is $120 per year (equivalent to $10 a month instead of $12), and Researcher Pro is $240 per year ($20 a month instead of $24). You can switch between monthly and annual at any time, prorated automatically. Lab plans are billed annually.
- How does Lab pricing work?
- Lab is $18 per user per month, billed annually, with a minimum of 5 seats. It adds a shared lab workspace, roles and review workflows, a group reference library, project templates, admin controls, and 250 GB of pooled storage. Seats can be added or removed as your group changes, prorated.
- What does the AI add-on include?
- For $10 per user per month on any paid plan, the AI add-on unlocks advanced citation search, methodological review, journal-fit analysis, claim–evidence checks, and exportable AI usage reports. The same guardrails apply: it verifies, it never invents.
- Is there an education discount?
- Yes. Students and PhD candidates with a verified academic email address get discounted Researcher and Researcher Pro plans. Verification happens during signup — no paperwork.
- What happens to my manuscripts if I downgrade or cancel?
- Your work is never held hostage. You keep read access to everything, and you can export every manuscript as DOCX, PDF, or LaTeX and every reference library as BibTeX at any time, on any plan — including after cancellation.
- Where is my data stored?
- All customer data is stored in AWS eu-west-1 (Ireland), encrypted in transit and at rest. See the Security page for workspace isolation, audit logs, AI data handling, and our sub-processor list.
