Templates · Reporting

The technical report template.

A structured scaffold for the reports that are not journal papers: deliverables, white papers, and internal findings that still need an executive summary, real references, and a professional export. Numbered sections, a summary up top, and appendices that carry the detail.

What's included

Everything the format demands, seeded.

Executive summary first

A summary block sits at the top for the readers who will not reach the appendices — the sponsors, reviewers, and colleagues who need the finding and the recommendation in a page.

Numbered sections and appendices

Hierarchical numbered headings and self-numbering appendices give the report the navigable structure a long deliverable needs, with cross-references that stay correct as it grows.

Real references, still verified

A report is not exempt from rigor: citations resolve against Crossref by DOI, so a deliverable's evidence base is as checkable as a journal paper's.

Professional, branded export

Export a clean PDF or DOCX with a title page and consistent formatting — the report a funder or client receives looks considered, not assembled the night before.

Structure

The sections this template seeds.

Every section is a structured block: rename, reorder, or remove any of them — the template is where the manuscript starts, not where it must end.

Venues it suits

One draft, formatted for the destination.

The format fits funded-project deliverables, institutional report series, and technical notes posted to arXiv — anywhere a document needs a paper's rigor without a journal's house style.

  • Funder deliverables
  • arXiv (cs/eess reports)
  • Institutional report series
  • White papers

Who it’s for

Built for this kind of writing.

  • Labs producing funder deliverables and milestone reports
  • Groups publishing white papers or technical notes outside journals
  • Teams that want internal findings written with the same rigor as a paper

Export

Formatted for the destination.

Exports to branded PDF and DOCX with a title page, numbered sections, and appendices — plus LaTeX when the report is destined for a preprint server.
